WHY SENIORITY MATTERS TO DISTRICT 94
September 19, 2007
Dear Fellow District 94 Resident,
Believe it or not, another election for the Louisiana House of Representatives, District 94 seat is coming up on Saturday October 20. I was honored to be elected by you on March 31, 2007 in a special election to fill the unexpired term of my predecessor, who resigned prematurely. Now, I am respectfully asking for your support in my campaign for re-election to a full, four-year term as your State Representative.
In the spring session of the legislature, I supported important legislation that increased teacher salaries to the Southern average and fully funded higher education for the first time. Key insurance reform was passed, as well as tax credits for citizens who face higher insurance premiums and follow the State’s strict new building code. Legislators budgeted $200 million for coastal restoration and flood protection and $600 million for infrastructure improvements, including the state’s crumbling roadways. For our overburdened taxpayers, vital tax deductions, which were eliminated in the Stelly tax increase, were restored.
The last legislative session provided key victories for residents of District 94. There was good news for residents participating in the Road Home program, as the State of Louisiana committed $1.2 billion to cover the shortfall in the program. For City Park, $15 million was allocated and a special taxing district was created that will allow the park to receive additional funds for necessary restoration. In addition, non-flood assets from the Orleans Parish Levee Board were protected from a takeover by the City of New Orleans.
When I was sworn in on April 17, 2007, I was last in seniority in the Louisiana House of Representatives. In fact, I was 105th out of 105 members. Due to term limits and retirements, nearly 60 of the current legislators will not return next year. Therefore, if I am re-elected, I will immediately move up drastically in seniority and be positioned for leadership assignments in the House. However, if another candidate is elected in our district, they will merely be one of the 60 new members with no seniority. Please vote to re-elect me so I can use my seniority to the benefit of our district.
It has been a pleasure serving you for the past five months and I hope you allow me the privilege of serving you for the next four years. Thank you for your consideration!!
